Shanghai municipal government issued another "white list" on Tuesday for the resumption of major construction projects within the city, including projects of semiconductors, transportation and medicine, all pillar industries of the manufacturing hub, after the city has largely brought the latest resurgence of the Omicron variant under control.
Among the construction "white list" are 24 projects, such as green data centers of Tencent and Alibaba, Midea's second headquarters, the 12-inch production line of SMIC and biological drug research and development center of WuXi Biologics.
The first batch of 48 employees received the special permits from their local communities and work resumption codes on Wednesday that allow them to return to work after the project obtained government approval for resumption on Tuesday, Li Xiao, General Manager of Tencent Cloud East China region, confirmed with the Global Times on Wednesday.
The company's artificial intelligence (AI) advanced computing center and industrial base is located in the economic and technological development park of Songjiang district, Shanghai, covering an area of 236 mu (15.7 hectares), with a total construction area of 500,000 square meters.
The park is to be a leading assembly area involving various tasks including AI, instant communication, image processing and scientific computing.
Shanghai has moved to restart the local economy while striving to rein in the epidemic under the dynamic zero-COVID policy.
In parallel with the "white list," the city also issued a second guideline for the resumption of Shanghai-based industrial enterprises on Tuesday, refining the previously announced supportive measures for accelerating work resumption.
The guideline offers details for businesses to operate under the closed-loop management, stockpile anti-epidemic items such as face masks, antigen test kits and other necessities.
To date, Shanghai has launched two batches of "white lists" facilitating local enterprises to resume production and business operation, covering a total of 1,854 companies, as the city, the center of the Yangtze River Delta industrial zone, seeks to keep regional supply chains run normally.
