To commemorate the first year after the "Father of hybrid rice" Yuan Longping's death on Sunday, a middle school in Hangzhou, in East China's Zhejiang Province, got 100 students together to participate in a labor-related class outdoors. Local villagers took students down to the muddy fields to transplant rice seedlings and learn about the value of food. "Let the students participate in such activities. It's important to let the students understand Yuan Longping's contribution to our country, how hard-won the food is, and it is also enriching for our students to learn about the hard work that goes behind rice planting," the teacher said.

However, many careful netizens pointed out that the method of transplanting rice seedlings using hoes, like it is shown in the video, is an unreasonable method. "It's good to organize this kind of activities, but it is even better to demonstrate how things are done correctly," one netizen commented. "Teachers should be the first to learn some basic knowledge about transplanting, before trying to teach students how to do it."

However, there have also been fewer critical reactions to the video: "They are so lucky to have plenty of food nowadays," another netizen commented.
