The Rubik's Cube, a puzzle game popular with both children and adults, can also be turned into art. Recently, Xia Chuanqi from Karamay, Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, spent three days using 1,200 Rubik's cubes to create the portrait of the academician Yuan Longping.

May 22 marks the first year after the death of Yuan Longping, whose high-yielding rice varieties have helped feed people around the world, Xia said. "So, I want to remember Yuan in this way and also want to call on all people to understand how hard-won our food is," Xia noted.

Xia's move has sparked heated discussion online. Some netizens think his creative idea is worth encouraging. "Using Rubik's Cube, a toy that both adults and children like to assemble the picture is not only very colorful, but also an impressive piece of art," one netizen commented. However, others think that it is more meaningful to learn more agricultural knowledge than to spend three days putting together a portrait. "A total of 1,200 Rubik's cubes must have cost a lot of money. If these cubes are just discarded after this, that will be a real waste," another said.
