A: I heard that you are a northerner. What kind of side dishes do northerners eat with mantou buns?   

听说你是北方人,在北方人们吃馒头一般会搭配什么小菜呢？

B: For myself, I like to eat some pickled vegetables with mantou.

A: Really? Have you ever tried barbecued mantou slices with condensed milk?

B: I've had barbecued mantou slices, but what is condensed milk?  

烤馒头片我吃过,但炼乳是什么呢？

(kǎo mántóupiàn wǒ chīɡuò, dàn liànrǔ shì shénme ne?)

A: Condensed milk is a dairy product. It is usually made with fresh milk and sugar. It tastes very sweet. 

炼乳是一种牛奶制品,一般用鲜牛奶和糖精制成,口味香甜。

(liànrǔ shì yīzhǒnɡ niúnǎi zhìpǐn, yībān yònɡ xiānniúnǎi hé tánɡjīnɡ zhìchénɡ, kǒuwèi xiānɡtián.)

B: I want to try some now that I've heard you talk about it. Can condensed milk be used for any other dishes?  

听你这么一说我也想尝试一下。炼乳还能被用来做其他的美食吗？

(tīnɡnǐ zhème yīshuō wǒyě xiǎnɡ chánɡshì yīxià.liànrǔ háinénɡ bèi yònɡlái zuò qítā de měishí ma?)

A: Of course. People use condensed milk to make ice cream or pudding. 

当然,炼乳还被人用来做雪糕或布丁等美食。

(dānɡrán, liànrǔ háibèi rén yònɡlái zuò xuěɡāo huò bùdīnɡ děnɡ měishí.)

B: I get it. Next time I'll buy some and give it a try.
