Recently, a woman met an old garbage collector who pretended to be a traditional Chinese medicine doctor and invited him home to treat her parent-in-laws in Shijiazhuang, North China's Hebei Province. The woman soon found herself cheated out of 5,000 yuan ($750) and called the police as soon as she discovered out her money was gone. In the end it turned out that the "doctor" was the culprit.
In addition to stealing the family's cash, the "doctor" also received 200 yuan for the treatment. Later, the fake doctor escaped on the pretext of going to fetch acupuncture needles and was caught by the police and detained.
According to the fake doctor, he was originally a garbage collector. He saw the woman walking on the road unsteadily, and he thought that pretending to be a TCM doctor may be a good chance to swindle some money. "Traditional Chinese medicine doctors are supposed to cure patients and save their lives. This is absolutely shameful behavior," one netizen commented.
