A young man from Baoding, North China's Hebei Province, was caught stealing tires from 11 cars. Surprisingly, the man was not stealing because he was short of money, but because he was too bored while staying up late.
Initially, the local police received reports of eight wheels missing from seven vehicles over three days, with the cost of damage ranging from hundreds to thousands of yuan. Then the police found that the suspect's modus operandi was the same, the thefts happened in the early hours of the morning and in the same area. When he police investigated nearby the criminal scene, they found more than 10 wheels in a resident's home, which looked very suspicious.
When the suspect surnamed Zhou, was questioned about the motive of the crime, his answer made perplexed the police. "To tell the truth, he's from a very wealthy family, and he is the only child in his family. He said that because he can't sleep at night, he just wanted to steal things for a thrill," the local police reported.
"No matter how bored he is, he should not have done anything illegal. He must be taught a lesson," one netizen said.
