New COVID-19 cases in Beijing have fallen constantly since May 22, but the risk of a resurgence still exists as the goal of zero community transmission has not yet been achieved, local authorities announced at a press conference on Wednesday.

Xu Hejian, spokesperson for the Beijing municipal government, said at a press conference on Wednesday that the city’s epidemic prevention and control department continues to seek progress while maintaining stability.
 
A total of 340 new local infections were reported in Beijing from May 22 to 31, and 400 cases were cured and discharged from hospitals during the same period, far higher than the number of infected patients.
 
13 districts in Beijing had no new cases for more than seven consecutive days as of May 31, as normal production and daily life had been restored.
 
The number of COVID-19 infections in Beijing has been decreasing since May 22, while the community transmission has not been fully eliminated.
 
The city reported 7 local infections from 12pm on Tuesday to 3pm on Wednesday, five of which were found in temporary controlled areas for the epidemic and two in the community in Fengtai District.

The latest outbreak in Beijing is now under effective control, but the re-emergence of community transmission shows the risk of resurgence still exists, local health authorities noted.
