Beijing will unfalteringly carry out "dynamic zero-COVID" measures to defend its hard-won anti-epidemic victories with a clear head, said Xu Hejian, spokesperson of the Beijing municipal government, on Sunday at a press conference, a day after the city entered the cleanup phase against COVID-19.

Beijing reported five infections inside quarantined zones, from 12 am to 3 pm local time on Sunday, and no cases were detected outside of quarantined areas. The city has reported a total of 1,822 COVID-19 cases from April 22 to June 5.

As 12 cases were detected in quarantined areas in Fengtai district, between June 4 and 5, the work-from-home policy across the region will be prolonged until June 9 at 6 am. The temporary suspension of public transportation in the district will also continue.

The entire Haidian district will return to normal from June 6, with the exception of areas under lockdown or control, after no COVID-19 cases were found outside quarantine zones for more than seven days. This means reopening of indoor dining at restaurants and cultural, sports and entertainment facilities.

The city will continue nucleic acid testing screening from Monday for people who are exposed to infection and provide normalized testing services for residents who must present a negative test result within the previous 72 hours before entering public places. Beijing on Sunday adjusted the validity of the test results from 48 hours to 72 hours.
