Security forces have found and destroyed a weapon cache of the Islamic State (IS) in Afghanistan's eastern Parwan province, provincial police spokesman Mohammad Kamran Habibi said on Tuesday.

Quoting the official, the local Tolo television channel reported that the weapon cache was discovered in a house in the provincial capital Charikar city on Monday and police have taken into custody three persons, including a woman, in this connection.

Police have discovered a huge quantity of arms and ammunition, including two suicide vests, from the weapon cache and dynamited the house, which damaged several houses nearby, the media outlet reported.

The hardliner IS, which has claimed responsibility for a series of blasts over the past few months in Afghanistan, is not posing a serious threat and the security forces would continue to diminish the armed group, according to officials with the Taliban-run administration.
