Heavy rain hit many places in East China's Fujian Province on Monday and Tuesday, causing primary schools and kindergartens to suspend classes and 63,810 residents to be evacuated and displaced due to safety concerns. Up to now, at least three people were killed after a house collapsed in the Huainan township, the city of Sanming on Tuesday.

According to the rescue personnel present at scene, a number of people have found themselves trapped and as of press time, all have been rescued.

The Fujian provincial meteorological station issued a rainstorm alert on Tuesday, reporting that rainfall in many areas was to exceed the historical records.

Torrential rain in Sanming also caused a landslide near a house, local fire and rescue workers rushed to transfer all residents with mobility difficulties.

Videos posted by netizens showed the river water flowing out into the residents’ community, and due to the rainfall, the water was deep enough to cover the roof of cars.

Affected by the heavy rain, some counties, cities and districts in Fujian have experienced a small range of agricultural disasters. The main affected crops are early rice, middle rice, corn and other grains, passion fruit, lotus plum and other fruits. Some individual farmlands were destroyed by floods.

From Monday to Tuesday afternoon, cumulative rainfall has exceeded 50 millimeters in 429 towns in 39 counties, of which 174 towns in 27 counties exceeded 100 millimeters in Fujian.
