Shao is a member of the literati, not only in terms of his social identity, but also in his spirituality. His paintings have the quality of traditional literati painting, and it can also be said that Shao Qi is a contemporary literati painter. Although his works inherit the essence of traditional literati painting, Shao Qi's paintings still have a contemporary character in the artistic concept, the expression, especially the brush and ink techniques.

Shao Qi's brushwork is straightforward and tough. So when he chooses to paint on paper with a rough surface, the roughness of the lines lightens the rigidity and accentuates its toughness; and his ink halo is mainly light and elegant.

Shao likes to paint trees, especially the performance of bush trees is unique. The interplay and density of the painting is very natural, which is a high-level Chinese painting. As for the huts in the forest and the wooden bridges under the forest, they are all so poetic that one can think of a wonderland.

The success of Shao's landscape paintings lies in his integration of Chinese painting with contemporary literati sentiments to build his own style. He captures a part or fragment of the natural landscape to express his sentiments, and the content he expresses is also poetic. It is the eternal sentiment that bridges ancient and modern literati. It can be seen  Shao Qi paying tribute to the ancients as equally as establishing his self-worth in communicating with the ancients.

The complexity and variety of pen and ink in landscape painting can best show the ability and connection of the painter. When Shao Qi extracts the essence of the pen and ink in Chinese painting and fully uses it, his painting skills are both inherited from the ancient sages and the modern techniques. He has refined his pen and ink, turning the complexity into simplicity, so that every line and every change of ink block is concise and clear. As a result, his images are rich, varied and intriguing. He wants to use this kind of painting creation to vent, reflect on himself, and thus prove himself.

It is not difficult to paint the style of modern works, but it is rare to paint in the ancient style. He sticks to his beliefs and practice, and cultivates himself in the pen and ink, which is a realm.

Shao Qi is a diligent creator. Although the land has been weathered and is no longer as fertile as it was at the beginning, after unremitting cultivation, the soil will accumulate nutrients and renew its energy, and the harvest will naturally come again.
