A man in Dongguan, a city in South China's Guangdong Province, called the municipal government service hotline 12345 to help him get detained by police and return to a regular way of living in the detention center.
The man, surnamed Lü, was sentenced years ago for breaking the law and was on good behavior at the beginning of his release. However, later he often went to bars, borrowed money from others, and spent all his monthly salary. "I think such kind of behavior is very bad, but I can't restrain myself, so I hope to be detained and return to the detention center to live a regular life," said Lü.
The operator of the 12345 psychological consultation desks patiently comforted and persuaded Lü, and sought the help of judicial social workers and social psychological service consultants to formulate a solution. "The detention center cannot protect someone from social pressures forever and we need to face the world," one netizen commented on the Chinese social media platform Sina Weibo. "The government service hotline 12345 should be promoted throughout the nation so as to help more people in trouble," said another netizen on Weibo.
