For most Chinese students, taking the national college entrance examinations is an important moment in their life. As this important milestone has a great influence on the direction of their future life, the exams should be absolutely fair and just. However, a student from South China's Guangdong Province has been recently questioned by netizens about his repeated admissions to Peking University in three years.
Screenshots show that Quan Xuanyu, a student from Guangzhou, was admitted to Peking University in 2022, scoring 694 points as the top scorer in Maoming, while the descriptive information shows that Quan had already been admitted to Peking University in 2020 and 2021. During the three years, the student has been admitted to Peking University three times, and the prize amount for the top scorer totaled 2 million yuan ($298,601). Many netizens questioned whether the student is a "professional examinee," who made money in this way.
The local education bureau said that the relevant departments have established a working group to investigate the case. "It is unacceptable to use the examinations for profit," one netizen said. "The incident should be investigated thoroughly, and the public should be given an explanation as soon as possible."
