China is willing to promote practical cooperation with Myanmar through increased imports of its quality agricultural products, expansion of bilateral financial cooperation, implementation of poverty reduction projects and more direct flights for local students to return to China to resume their studies, said Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi during a meeting on Sunday with Myanmar's Foreign Minister, U Wunna Maung Lwin.
Wang met U Wunna Maung Lwin on the sidelines of the Seventh Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in Myanmar.
The two officials agreed to elevate the level of bilateral trade and commercial cooperation, speeding up the construction of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor, the implementation of the cross-border power grid agreement and the operation of China-Myanmar oil and gas pipelines.
Wang said that China values the traditional friendship with Myanmar which has been rock solid due to the broad public support and profound social foundation, despite changes in the two countries and in the international landscape.
China will continue to adopt friendly policies towards Myanmar and its people and further consolidate the four pillars of mutual political trust, beneficial cooperation, people-to-people bonds, and cultural exchanges, Wang noted.
U Wunna Maung Lwin said Myanmar cherishes the Myanmar-China "Paukphaw" friendship and will continue to support China's legitimate stances on the issues concerning the Taiwan region, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Xizang Autonomous Region and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
The two sides also exchanged views and vowed to promote the LMC and China-ASEAN cooperation.
