China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) launched its first self-developed subsea Christmas tree (Xmas) system in the Bohai Sea, Chinese media outlet the papper.com reported on Sunday, securing energy supplies for fishery and marine shipping uses.

The subsea Xmas oil and gas extraction system was applied in the Jinzhou 31-1 gas filed in Bohai Sea with trial daily output of 310,000 cubic meters, able to meet the gas usage needs for 1,500 households for an entire year.

Yu Guimin, deputy manager of CNOOC Tianjin branch, said there are dozens of oil and gas blocks in the Bohai Sea, and the self-built Christmas tree oil and gas extraction system may help extract more oil and gas reserve in the area and lift the annual oil and gas output by over 40 million tons.

The self-built Christmas tree system was designed in compact structure, weighing 24.8 tons. The system is suitable for use in shallow water and has an expected operating life of 15 years.
