Beijing city authorities together with multiple internet-based platforms in the catering service launched a new round of consumption coupons giveaways on Monday, in an attempt to boost the reviving of local restaurants after recent local COVID-19 outbreak is contained.

A total of 100 million yuan ($14.82 million) of coupons will cover takeaway, dine-in services and support to the vulnerable groups, which are now available for Beijing residents via multiple mobile phone apps and mini-programs on WeChat including Meituan, Ele.me and others.

A Beijing based white collar worker surnamed Song told the Global Times on Monday that she got a coupon in the morning and used the coupon for ordering lunch on Ele.me. "I used to spend 40 to 42 yuan without any coupon, and today I had about 70 percent discount and spent only 35 yuan," she said.

According to a statement sent to the Global Times from Ele.me on Monday, this round of coupons giveaway will run from July 18 to August 16, providing two discount coupons of 15 and 30 yuan off when the overall order value reaches 50 and 100 yuan, respectively, and available within 24 hours.

A representative from Ele.me told the Global Times on Monday that the company prepared 450,000 coupons valued over 10 million yuan guided by Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau, in order to revive local virus-hit restaurants.
