A woman in Fuzhou, East China's Fujian Province, had to undergo surgery and was left with six stitches because of a serious infection on her face caused by squeezing a pimple.
The 23-year-old woman, surnamed Chen, said to the media that in May 2021, she found a small pimple-like lump on her face and wanted to use an acne needle to puncture it.
"But the pimple did not break, and it even became inflamed," Chen said, noting that she had treated the injury with iodophor to disinfect it with no improvement and it even caused her to develop an allergy.
Chen said that she didn't have the option of receiving professional treatment for a long time, and that she did not see a doctor until July in 2022. It took a full year for the infection and injury on her face to heal.
The woman was diagnosed with an epidermoid cyst by the doctor, and she made an appointment for a surgery a few days after the inflammation had disappeared, in which the doctor took out the cyst and sutured two layers for a total of six stitches. Chen is currently recovering and waiting for stitches on her face to be removed, "I would like to remind people who have the same situation as me not to pop pimples by themselves, but to go to the hospital to receive professional treatment in time," she said.
