pea-flour cake / 豌豆黄 / (wāndòuhuánɡ) 

A: What traditional snacks are there in Beijing? I only know of mung bean milk, but I'm not used to its flavor. 

北京有什么传统小吃呀？我只知道豆汁,但我不太习惯它的味道。

(běijīnɡ yǒu shénme chuántǒnɡ xiǎochī ya? wǒzhīzhīdào dòuzhī, dàn wǒ bùtài xíɡuàn tāde wèidào.)

B: You can try pea-flour cake. It suits most people's appetite.   

你可以试试豌豆黄,它比较符合大众口味。

A: What's pea-flour cake? I've never heard of it.

什么是豌豆黄呢？我从来没有听说过。

(shénme shì wāndòuhuánɡ ne? wǒ cónɡlái méiyǒu tīnɡshuō ɡuò.)

B: Pea-flour cake uses peas as an ingredient. It is a snack made by grinding up peas, condensing them and cutting them into pieces.

豌豆黄以豌豆为原料,是一种将豌豆磨碎、凝结、切块而成的小吃。

(wāndòuhuánɡ yǐ wāndòu wéi yuánliào, shìyīzhǒnɡ jiānɡ wāndòu mósuì,nínɡjié,qiēkuài érchénɡ de xiǎochī.)

A: It doesn't sound bad. What does it taste like? Can you describe it?

B: Peak-flour cake is fine and smooth. It melts in your mouth and it is sweet, cool and refreshing. According to legend, the Empress Dowager Cixi liked eating pea-flour cake.

豌豆黄口感细腻,入口即化。它的味道香甜,清凉爽口。相传清朝慈禧太后就很喜欢吃豌豆黄。

(wāndòuhuánɡ kǒuɡǎn xìnì, rùkǒu jíhuà.tāde wèidào xiānɡtián, qīnɡliánɡ shuǎnɡkǒu.xiānɡchuán qīnɡcháo cíxǐ tàihòu jiù hěnxǐhuān chī wāndòuhuánɡ.)
