'Florentijn Hofman: Celebrate!' - Art exhibition


This exhibition is a solo show for Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, who is famous for his iconic urban installation Rubber Duck

This is the artist's first large-scale solo exhibition in China. 

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Florentijn Hofman studio, more than 20 new artworks will make their debut and 15 gigantic animal sculptures will appear as well.

The symbol of ceremony, confetti, will be seen everywhere in the exhibition, provoking viewers to ponder about the essence of human ceremonial activities.

By amplifying daily objects, Hofman creates unique visual experiences that break down people's normal ideas about the world.  

The title of the exhibition Celebrate! signifies surpassing boundaries of reality and creating a culture that promotes peace and love.

'A Midsummer Night's Dream' - Music event

This music event in Xi'an is a candlelight concert of classical music. Classical pieces from great composers such as Chopin, Beethoven, Debussy and Tchaikovsky will be played at the concert. 

Candlelight concerts are very popular worldwide. Over 1,000 candlelight concerts have been held in more than 100 cities around the world. With lit candles, great musicians and live music, it is an excellent way for people to relax and enjoy music. 

This concert assembles many extraordinary musicians such as seasoned pianist Cheng Fei, multiple-award winner Bu Dunge, South Korean violinist Youngmin Lee and many more.   

The stage, lit with hundreds of candles, will be open 30 minutes before the concert starts, allowing the audience to take as many photos as they like.

'The Making of China: The Civilizations of the Xia, Shang, and Zhou Dynasties' - Special Exhibition

This exhibition in Shanghai displays 314 relics from the Xia (c.2070BC-c.1600BC), Shang (c.1600BC-1046BC) and Zhou (1046BC-221BC) dynasties that were excavated in Henan Province. 

Located in China's Central Plains, the Henan Province served as the seat of the capitals of the Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties and is considered as one of the important cradles of the Chinese civilization.

The highlighted relics at the show include the Owl-shaped Zun (wine vessel) with the inscription "Fuhao," Kneeling-Figure-Shaped Jade Pendant and Turquoise-Inlaid Mythical Creature, demonstrating the excellent craftsmanship of ancient Chinese.

The show is a collaborative project between more than 20 Chinese cultural institutions such as the Henan Museum and the Institute of Archaeology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. 

It is the first show in the Shanghai Museum's exhibition series The Essence of China, which focuses on Chinese cultural relics and archaeological achievements.
