Four months ago, a 3-year-old girl was dragged away by a wild monkey while playing outside her home in Weixing village, Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality. Luckily, she was saved by a nearby good Samaritan.
On Wednesday, reporters learned that the wild monkey, which has not been captured, is suspected to have injured nearly 10 people in the past four months, including several children. The villagers even bring scissors or sticks with them to protect themselves when working in the fields.
Experts from local forestry authorities and zoos once released experimental monkeys into areas where this wild monkey haunted. They planned to lure it out so that they can subdue it with anesthetic rifles.
Unfortunately, after a long wait, the wild monkey did not appear again. The experts speculated that the monkey was frightened and did not dare to come out from its hidden mountains to cause trouble for the time being.
The capturing operation is over provisionally. People are waiting for the wild monkey to reappear and stabilize in the same spot several times so that they can try to trap it again.
Netizens express their concern and hope the monkey will be caught as soon as possible.
