'The Village' - dramaThis drama set to play in September is an elusive version of Stan Lai's classic drama The Village by Theatre Above.
Based on a true history, The Village focuses on a group of people that leave the Chinese mainland in 1949 and cross the straits to the island of Taiwan without knowing when they will return home.
With nostalgia buried deep in their hearts, they take root in a village where they temporarily settle down and the village later becomes a juancun (military dependents village).
Born in 1954 in Washington D.C., Lai is a US-born playwright and theater director from the island of Taiwan.
Debuting in 2008, The Village is listed as one of Lai's three most classic stage drama pieces together with A Dream Like a Dream and Secret Love in Peach Blossom Land.

'Lane 38 Changyang Rd.' - art exhibitionThis show in Shanghai is a photo exhibition that records the community landscape of Lane 38 Changyang Road before its demolition.
The exhibition covers a variety of mediums such as film and Polaroid photography. Instead of digital photos, photographer Wu Yikai uses real film because he feels it can better capture the faces of the residents, the rich details in the living space and the objects that have been preserved for a lifetime. The idea of using Polaroid stemmed from Wu's desire to share photos with residents immediately.
The exhibition is being held by Wu and designer Lu Zhen, whose grandmother lived in the neighborhood.
A graduate of the California College of the Arts, Wu has a keen affection for photographic film.
Lu is a designer currently studying for a master's degree in graphic design at the California College of the Arts.
