A 16-year-old Chinese girl won the break dance World Battle 2022 held in Portugal on Monday, marking the second time in a month that she has topped international competitions.
Liu Qingyi, a break dancer from Central China's Henan Province, won the title after fierce competition in the event that attracted high-level players from more than 50 countries and regions.
"I didn't feel too much pressure going into the competition," Liu said in an interview after the match. "I want people to see something different every time instead of getting bored with me after the first surprise."
Liu won the women's division of the Outbreak 2022 hip-hop competition held in Slovakia in early August, marking the first time a Chinese break-dancer had won a top international competition.
With break dancing becoming an official sport at the 2024 Paris Olympics, it is becoming more widely known and giving more dancers the chance to turn their hobby into a career. Liu said in a previous interview: "The Olympic entrance has greatly increased the awareness of break dancing and helped eliminate the prejudice against it. We are lucky to witness the best time."
