Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed improving a new system for mobilizing China's nationwide resources to achieve breakthroughs in core technologies and establish competitive advantages and seize the strategic initiative in several important areas during a key meeting held in Beijing on Tuesday.
While presiding over the 27th meeting of the Central Commission for Comprehensively Deepening Reform, Xi also stressed comprehensively strengthening efforts to conserve resources, the Xinhua News Agency reported.
At the meeting, Xi suggested giving full play to China's socialist system's advantages, which allow the nation to concentrate its strength and efforts on major things, Xinhua reported.
The President also called for strengthening the leadership of the Party and the central government over major scientific and technological innovation, giving full play to the role of the market mechanism, and optimizing the allocation of innovation resources based on the nation's strategic needs, in an effort to establish competitive advantages and seize the strategic initiative in a number of important areas.
Efforts are also urged to "accelerate the fundamental transformation of resource utilization," and the whole society is asked to save resources throughout the entire process of economic and social development in all fields, and to promote the management of resources, scientific allocation, comprehensive conservation, and recycling, as well as to improve the efficiency of resource utilization such as energy, water, grain, land, minerals and raw materials.
According to Xinhua, Xi also stressed exploring and solving issues in rural reform. It is necessary to create a high-quality and efficient rural medical and health system that suits the characteristics of the countryside, so that the vast population of farmers can obtain more equitable, accessible, and systematic and continuous medical and health services nearby, Xi said.
