A woman in Beijing who spent 250,000 yuan ($35,430) to successfully clone her pet dog has brought it back to her arms a year after its death, sparking discussion on animal cloning online.
The woman in the video receives the cloned puppy from staff, which looks exactly like her beloved pet dog, Rara, who died earlier. The woman said she chose to clone her pet because "I couldn't put it down when Rara passed away."
As early as April 2017, the first somatic cell cloned dog appeared in China. In August of the same year, the commercialization of pet cloning was officially launched. As the technology matured, many pet owners are willing to pay a high price to clone their pets.
Some netizens believe that even if it is cloned, it is not the same dog, "the cloned dog will not have the memories and emotions of the previous one." And some others regard it as a love that cannot be measured by money, and express their respect and understanding for such a choice.
