A young man in Beijing has impressed netizens by exploring soilless vegetable cultivation and successfully expanding the vegetables varieties to 16 with an annual output of 300 tons.
Wu Zhongsheng, project manager, factory director, and technologist of Jingdong Vegetable Factory, witnessed the factory's establishment and development by adopting independent innovation and localized techniques.
"We wanted to explore our own techniques to replace the imported ones, and we tried to expand the vegetable varieties from six to 16," Wu said.
Wu and his team finally made all 16 kinds of vegetables grow healthily after doing seed screening tests for more than eight months.
Now Wu's team has its own nutrient formula and produced 300 tons of vegetables annually in this soccer field-sized factory with an intelligent controlling system, automatic irrigating system, and artificial light system.
Although the locally developed planting technology is gradually maturing, and vegetables can grow well without much labor, Wu still comes to the factory early every day. "I like staying with the plants. Only by getting close to them can we truly witness their growth," he said.
