As the fifth competition day of the ISSF Wold Championship Rifle/Pistol in Carol, Egypt continued on Tuesday, Team China have still been far ahead on the medal tally with 32 medals, 16 more than the second place Indian team.

Among 32 medals, there have been 17 gold medals as of Monday, topping all competitive teams and accounting for more than half of all gold medals for events held within five days. One of the gold medals was bagged by an 18-year-old high-school student from Southwest China's Sichuan Province.

On Monday, China's Olympic champion Yang Haoran, with new partner Huang Yuting, cruised past South Korea's Kim Sang-do and Gwon Da-yeong 16-6 to win the 10-meter air rifle mixed team gold.

Another Chinese pair, Sheng Lihao and Zhang Yu, shared the bronze with Park Ha-jun and Cho Eun-young of South Korea.

Yang and Huang enjoyed a solid opening, leading by 6-2 in the gold medal match. The South Korean pair pulled two points back after a timeout, only to see their Chinese counterparts taking eight points in a row to surge ahead 14-4 before wrapping up the victory 16-6.

Be it Olympic gold, World Championship or World Cup final, Yang has won every possible title in his career as a shooter.

"My primary goal is to earn a quota place for China," Yang said during an interview with Xinhua before the World Championship.

"Of course I set my eyes on the championship, but more importantly I hope to challenge myself and learn from my experience, as chances of participating in major competitions have been rare since the COVID-19 outbreak."

Pang Yuqian, a high-school student from Sichuan Province, recorded a stunning performance on Sunday, bagging a gold medal in the women's 50-meter rifle three positions after beating Finland's Alexandra Rosenlew 17-15.

This is Pang's second gold medal during the competition. "She has great concentration, which is a very important advantage in shooting sports," Hu Shiyu, coach of the shooting team at Pang's high school, commented and she was impressed by Pang's hard work and talent.

On the first day of the World Championship, Team China claimed three victories. Du Linshu won a gold medal in the first event of the tournament. He was more accurate than his rivals in the 50-meter Rifle Prone Men Junior. Hou Min also won in this event in Women Junior after beating Nele Stark from Germany and Gina Daniela Gyger from Switzerland, who finished in second and third place, respectively.

The third gold medal was won by Chinese athletes Luo Zizhao, Feng Sixuan and Yao Qianxun in the 25-meter Pistol Team Women Junior.

Around 1,050 athletes from 88 countries from all continents participated in the championship. These competitions provide an opportunity for teams from Asia, Africa, America and Oceania to win the first available quotas for 10 Olympic events following the athletes from Europe who opened the Olympic Qualification in Poland, as outlined on the event's official website.
