The new season of Chinese documentary series Century Master, which aims to pay tribute to Chinese experts in various fields, will feature those people who have greatly contributed to China's sports development such as Zhang Boling, Ma Yuehan and Dong Shouyi and great educators like Cai Yuanpei, Huang Yanpei and Tao Xingzhi, the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and China Literature and Art Foundation announced on Saturday.

A total of 43 masters in fields ranging from fine arts to stage arts, like Lu Xun, Ba Jin, Mao Dun, Lao She and Mei Lanfang, were featured in the series' first season, which was well-received and positively reviewed after airing across the country since 2012. Another 57, including new rising names, will be featured in the second season.

"With a unique cinematography, the documentary series depicts the extraordinary lives and brilliant achievements of Chinese masters from multiple angles, showing a magnificent picture full of the spirit of Chinese culture, imagination and creativity of the Chinese nation," said Zuo Zhongyi, president of the China Literature and Art Foundation, on Saturday.

Zhang Boling (1876-1951) is known for not only founding the renowned Nankai University, but also establishing a number of annual national athletic meets and the forerunner to the modern Chinese Olympic Committee.

As an influential figure in the history of Chinese modern education, Cai Yuanpei (1868-1940) made contributions to education reform with his own education ideology, and pushed forward the critical evaluation of Chinese culture and synthesis of Chinese and Western thinking while he was president of Peking University.

Additionally, in order to attract more young viewers, the series is working with a German sports brand to launch events in Chinese universities and schools. Beijing Winter Olympic champion Su Yiming and actor Chen Xiao have been appointed as goodwill ambassadors for the culture and sport campaign.
