The Kela-Keshen gas field, the first trillion-cubic-meter scale gas field in Tarim Basin in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, has produced more than 200 billion cubic meters of natural gas, providing a solid source for a stable gas supply for the west-east gas transmission, and strongly contributing to China's green and low-carbon development, China Media Group reported on Monday.

Since the start of production in 2004, the Kela-Keshen gas field has produced a total of 200.59 billion cubic meters of natural gas, with six gas wells reaching a cumulative production exceeding 10 billion cubic meters and 17 wells reaching a cumulative production exceeding one billion cubic meters.

Located at the northern edge of the Tarim Basin, the Kela-Keshen gas field is a main gas source for the west-east gas transmission, according to the report, adding that five new gas reservoirs have been discovered in recent years with a new production capacity of 5.65 billion cubic meters and equivalent to a new oilfield with an annual production capacity of 4.5 million tons.

The local production team from China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) recently completed the commissioning and production adjustment of a new gas well, increasing the production by three million cubic meters, Jiang Guojun, a local manager from CNPC told  China Media Group.

Jiang added that more than 13 billion cubic meters of natural gas have been produced in 2022, providing a secure supply of clean energy for more than 160 cities, 3,000 large and medium-sized enterprises and 400 million people in the western, central and eastern regions of China.

In the first three quarters of 2022, Tarim Oilfield  produced 5.59 million tons of petroleum liquids and 23.9 billion cubic meters of natural gas, with oil and gas production equivalents reaching 24.69 million tons, the Xinhua News Agency reported on Sunday.
