A zoo in Changzhou, East China's Jiangsu Province held a popular activity in which zookeepers combine animal feces with traditional techniques to create exquisite handmade paintings on Sunday.

Staff members of the zoo said that the excrement of the red panda, also known as the lesser panda, contains a lot of bamboo fiber. Through a series of processes such as sorting, panning, cooking and drying, the plant fiber can be extracted into one of the raw materials of paper. This activity attracted the attention of many children visiting the zoo, who could not help following the staff members to learn how to make it. After the paper is made, children can also paint on it. Then workers will frame and store the children's paintings and give them to the children as mementos.

Netizens said the activity is innovation as it can teach children about nature, scientific principles and protect the environment. "Who would have thought that even the excrement of such a cute red panda could be so useful," a netizen joked. A mother surnamed Wu who accompanied her children to the event, said it helped to cultivate children's environmental awareness. Since the red panda's diet is mainly bamboo leaves and apples, its excrement is relatively odorless.
