'Focus' - art exhibition

This exhibition in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, is called Focus as it focuses on the cultural exchanges between China and the West during changing times.

In the 18th and 19th centuries, Guangzhou was an important place in the world trade network. Under the background of trade globalization, Guangzhou has become the gateway and window for exchanges in Chinese and Western art and culture. A total of 150 artworks are on display at the exhibition.

English painter George Chinnery's masterpieces are a highlight of the exhibition.

Chinnery was one of the Westerners who explored China's Cantonese culture back in 1825.

Although the Western artist was trained in one of the UK's most rigorous art institutions - the Royal Academy of Arts - in his early years, his style later became deeply connected to Chinese culture, especially when depicting the geographical and cultural scenery in the coastal areas of Guangzhou.

The exhibition is being held at the Guangdong Museum, the leading cultural institution in the province.
