The Chinese Billiards & Snooker Association (CBSA) decided Sunday that six Chinese snooker players will be suspended from attending or competing on all domestic billiards competitions, after the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) previously announced that they have been suspended from the World Snooker Tour for allegations of match fixing.
According to the notification of the WPBSA and China’s penalty measures and management regulations, the suspension of Liang Wenbo, Li Hang, Lu Ning, Zhao Jianbo, Bai Langning and Chang Bingyu will come into force since Sunday, the CBSA said on China Twitter-like Sina Weibo through its official account.
The CBSA firmly opposes match fixing, gambling and other acts that violate sports integrity and ethics, and will make further punishments based on the final investigation results of the WPBSA, the association added.
“WPBSA chairman Jason Ferguson has taken the decision to suspend Lu Ning, Li Hang, Zhao Jianbo, Bai Langning and Chang Bingyu from attending or competing on the World Snooker Tour with immediate effect,” read a statement by the WPBSA.
“This follows the suspension of Liang Wenbo on 27 October 2022 and a subsequent investigation which remains ongoing into allegations of manipulating the outcome of matches for betting purposes in breach of the WPBSA Conduct Regulations.”
Earlier in 2022, the 35-year-old Liang was banned for four months until August by the WPBSA as he was convicted of domestic assault, said the Xinhua News Agency.
