The Chinese mainland aviation authorities on Wednesday reached out to Taiwan authorities and urged them to resume normal operation of cross-Straits flights at an appropriate time to benefit Taiwan compatriots, according to a mainland official.
The mainland aviation authorities have followed existing channels to urge Taiwan authorities to resume cross-Straits direct flights, noting that the epidemic situation on both sides of the Taiwan Straits has stabilized at present, which is a favorable opportunity to resume the normal operation of cross-Straits air routes, said Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.
It is hoped that both sides will work with each other to promote the normal operation of cross-Straits air routes, and give priority to the resumption of 16 cross-Straits direct flights to destinations such as Guangzhou, according to Zhu.
The spokesperson further noted that the epidemic situation in the mainland has been well controlled, and Taiwan compatriots can come to study, work, start a business, and live with peace of mind, adding that the mainland attaches great importance to normal exchanges with Taiwan compatriots.
Zhu urged the Taiwan authorities to cherish the hard-won results of cross-Straits direct flights, take practical measures, give priority to resuming direct flights, continue to promote the normal operation of cross-Straits air routes, and benefit people on both sides of the Straits.
