From jewelry to bouquets, both online platforms and offline shops are witnessing a significant increase in market demand from Chinese consumers in celebration of International Women's Day on Wednesday, which is representative of a surge in domestic consumption amid the nation's strengthened support.

The Global Times learned that customer traffic at SKP, a major shopping mall in Beijing, noticeably increased on Wednesday compared to a typical weekday, with the majority of consumers being females.

"The mall normally does not have this many consumers on a weekday," a sales person at SKP told the Global Times on Wednesday, adding that he expected more female consumers coming to shop amid the half-day break.

An employee from a flower and gift shop said that a lot of consumers came in for flowers on Wednesday.

In addition to a booming offline shopping-spree, female consumers have also been spending more on online platforms amid various promotions and events held recently.

The sales of product categories such as flowers, makeup and personal care have surged significantly on the festival, and the orders for these categories increased by more than 30 percent year-on-year, according to a report sent to the Global Times from Eleme on Wednesday.

The domestic consumption is rebounding significantly following the optimized COVID-19 responses since the new year, Zhang Yi, CEO of iiMedia Research Institute, told the Global Times on Wednesday.

Zhang added the booming consumption recovery supported by the she economy will also help boost the nation's overall consumption recovery.

Data from Douyin showed that 69 percent of users had placed orders on the platfrom  from March 1 to Monday, amid promotions, with the sales of products such as fruit and vegetable juice and aroma-related products increased by 442 percent and 127 percent respectively, caijing.com reported.

The month of March 2023 is dedicated to promoting domestic consumption as one of the six major events aimed at boosting domestic consumption, and The Ministry of Commerce has announced that it will launch a series of activities and events covering different fields and sectors. According to the ministry, 2023 will be dedicated to promoting domestic consumption.
