The Chinese Embassy in Belgium on Tuesday refuted the move of certain members of the Belgian Federal Parliament voicing "support" for the Taiwan island over participating in the World Health Assembly (WHA), expressing strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition to their inference in China's internal affairs.
Certain members of the Belgian Federal Parliament "supporting" the Taiwan authorities regarding the WHA seriously violates the one-China principle, undermines China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and seriously interferes in China's internal affairs, said the spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in Belgium on Tuesday.
The 76th WHA has rejected the so-called proposal of "inviting Taiwan to participate in the WHA as an observer" submitted by certain countries. The WHA has rejected so-called Taiwan-related proposals for consecutive years, which fully shows that the one-China principle has international support and represents the prevailing trend that cannot be challenged, said the spokesperson.
The spokesperson noted that the DPP authorities pushed countries that still hold so-called "diplomatic ties" with Taiwan island into making the proposal. Certain countries, either overtly or covertly, encouraged and supported this move. These egregious moves go against the trend of history and deliberately undermine international rules. They have been unanimously rejected by countries taking a just stand. By the time the assembly commenced, nearly 100 countries had sent letters to the WHO or issued statements to express their commitment to the one-China principle and opposition to Taiwan's participation in the WHA, the spokesperson said.
The spokesman stressed that the one-China principle is not only the universal consensus of the international community, but also the political basis for diplomatic relations with China for all countries, including Belgium.
Relevant members of the Belgian Federal Parliament should stop interfering in China's internal affairs, return to their political commitment to the one-China principle, and refrain from voicing for Taiwan secessionist forces, so as not to cause further damage to China-Belgium relations and peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits.
The 76th World Health Assembly (WHA), which is fixed from May 21 to May 30, 2023, focused on "saving lives, driving health for all," the World Health Organization (WHO) said in a statement. At present, global health security still faces serious challenges, with strengthening solidarity and cooperation being the common expectation of all member states at the Conference. Global Times
