High temperatures and scorching sunshine at an outdoor wedding banquet in Yan'an, Northwest China's Shaanxi Province, prompted guests to make handmade sun hats out of cardboard boxes to alleviate the sweltering heat.

In the video, the guests wore various "carton hats" on their heads, talking and laughing, enjoying the meals at the wedding banquet, without being affected by the sunshine at all.

Zhang, the photographer, said that a guest could not bear the sun, so he picked up a cardboard box on the ground and put it on his head. And others followed suit after seeing how well the carton hat worked to shade the sunshine.

The host actually prepared tents for the wedding banquet, but did not take them out for fear of affecting the landscape built for the wedding ceremony, Zhang said, adding that no one expected that the sun would be so dry that day.

Northwest, Southwest and Central China suffered from prolonged high temperatures in recent days. Many places across the country saw high temperatures of 35 C or higher, and some parts of Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region even recorded temperatures between 40 C and 46 C.
