The human resources and social security authority in East China’s Jiangxi Province has launched a campaign targeting food safety concerns at the vocational and technical colleges following the exposure of several food safety incidents in the province.

According to the human resources and social security bureau of Xinyu city in Jiangxi, the city’s human resources authority has launched a special rectification campaign across local vocational and technical colleges to strictly prevent and control food safety risks on campus at the request of the provincial human resources authority, The Paper reported on Saturday.

Several food safety incidents have been reported in Jiangxi, which have aroused public concerns over the food safety risks on campuses across the province.

On Saturday, a provincial joint investigation team in Jiangxi released the results of their probe into the incident of the unusual object discovered in a student’s meal at a college canteen in the Jiangxi Industry Polytechnic College in the provincial capital Nanchang and said that the item was indeed a “mouse head” rather than a “duck neck,” diverging from the initial findings released by the local market watchdog which lacked careful investigation and evidence collection.

On June 8, a joint investigation formed by the local education authority and market watchdog in Jiujiang city, Jiangxi, confirmed that a kindergarten staffer washed children’s food trays in a urinal trough at a kindergarten in Chaisang district, Jiujiang, which was exposed online by a parent a day prior. The kindergarten was ordered to suspend operation for rectification and a further investigation into the legal operator of the kindergarten. The individual involved in the incident has been placed under investigation and faces a potential heavy penalty.

The Jiangxi Province Human Resources and Social Security Department held a food safety work deployment meeting on June 10, emphasizing the need to strengthen law enforcement in food safety and strictly prevent food safety accidents on campus by carefully investigate risks, carrying out self-examination and self-correction, focusing on rectification and implementation, improving emergency response capabilities and establishing a reliable food safety barrier.

As per the edict, local colleges such as Jiangxi University of Engineering immediately held a campus food safety special rectification work arrangement meeting in accordance with regulatory requirements, The Paper reported.

On Friday, the official website of the provincial market supervision administration also released a group of news reports about the campaigns on improving campus food safety across the province. Cities such as Ji’an and Yichun in Jiangxi emphasized renewed efforts over supervision and law enforcement to safeguard local food safety.
