The 2022 Shanghai Municipal Report on National Fitness Development was released on Thursday. According to the report, the "physical health" index is the highest it has ever been, but the "fitness facilities" index is at a low point. Obviously, for a city like Shanghai, where every inch of land is worth gold, the popularization of fitness facilities is not something that can be done overnight. However, the enthusiasm for national fitness cannot be overlooked.

In 2022, the proportion of people who regularly participate in physical exercise in Shanghai reached 50.1 percent, an increase of 1.1 percentage points from 2021. Among them, the proportion of citizens under 40 years old who regularly participate in physical exercise has increased. Walking, running and cycling are the most popular forms of exercise among Shanghai citizens. Dai Jian, director of the Center for Public Sports Service Development Research at Shanghai University of Sport, said that future efforts should be focused on two aspects: Continuing to improve fitness facilities and promoting the spirit of exercise among citizens.
