Construction of five large liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tanks with the world's largest single tank capacity of 270, 000 cubic meters completed the main structure on Monday, China Media Group reported, citing the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC). 

The facility is the second phase of the largest natural gas storage and transportation base being built in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. 

The five tanks are the second-phase project for the base named Jinwan "Green Energy Port," locating in the Jinwan District of Zhuhai, South China's Gunagdong Province. 

The main structure of the first LNG storage tank was completed in February this year. Each of the new tanks has a diameter of 94.2 meters and stands 65.7 meter tall, and can store 270,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas, according to media reports. 

The "Green Energy Port" project will become the largest natural gas storage and transportation base in South China after the second phase is put into operation in 2024. The annual processing capacity will reach 7 million tons, equivalent to about 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas, and can achieve an emission reduction of 33.52 million tons of carbon dioxide.

In September 2022, a carrier loaded with 210,000 cubic meters of LNG docked at Yancheng Binhai Port, East China's Jiangsu Province to unload LNG to the Yancheng Green Energy Port which is also operated by CNOOC, marking the official start of operation at the country's largest LNG reserve base.
