Chinese Premier Li Qiang said on Thursday that China's economy is still showing a positive trend, but the complex global political and economic situation has brought many impacts on China's development. Li stressed the need for targeted and coordinated policy measures to stabilize growth and employment and prevent risks.

Li made the remarks while presiding over a symposium with experts on China's economic situation. The comments came as the world's second-largest economy continues to recover from the pandemic, but challenges both at home and from abroad persist, leading some foreign media outlets to even hype grim predictions for the recovery pace.

At the symposium, a number of experts and scholars spoke and made suggestions on addressing problems in the economy. They believe that in the complex external environment, the country's economic development has shown great resilience, and there should be confidence in the prospects for the country's economic development, according to China Media Group (CMG).

After listening to experts and scholars, Li pointed out that the Chinese economy is showing a recovery trend, but at the same time it must be noted that the world's political and economic situation is complex, which has brought many impacts on China's development.

"We must comprehensively, dialectically, and farsightedly study and judge the current economic situation, further maintain strategic focus, and enhance development confidence," Li said, noting that China is at a crucial stage in its economic recovery and industrial upgrading and the general theme of stability while seeking progress should be maintained.

The premier said that with a focus on stabilizing growth, stabilizing employment and preventing risks, a batch of targeted and coordinated policy measures should be implemented promptly.

It is also necessary to establish and improve the normalized communication mechanism between government and private, foreign-funded and other enterprises, and to enhance scientific decision-making by enhancing professional exchanges, Li said.

"The remarks showed that China will continue to adhere to the general theme of seeking progress while maintaining stability, which means we will not carry out the so-called big stimulus or the counter-cyclical adjustment seen in the past," Tian Yun, a Beijing-based economist, told the Global Times on Thursday.

Tian noted that the official tone also focused on the positive trends in the overall economy, despite complicated factors such as monetary tightening in the US and Europe. "This is a slow recovery trend," partly due to tension in international relations, Tian said.
