Typhoon Doksuri affected 1.45 million people in East China’s Fujian Province causing direct economic loss totaling 3.053 billion yuan ($43 million) as of 9 pm on Saturday, according to Fujian provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters.

The provincial authorities have arranged emergency evacuation moves and helped resettle as many as 150,000 affected local residents. A total of 90 houses collapsed, and more than 346 houses were severely damaged, local media reported.

The typhoon also ravaged agricultural crops, impacting an area of 10,800 hectares, destroying an estimated 456.6 hectares of crops failure.

During emergency rescue operations, as of Friday evening, the PLA troops and armed police force stationed in the province rescued 226 people in distress, evacuated 6,150 local residents, and helped clear 43,000 cubic meters of accumulated water.

Currently, the extent of the flooding is being further assessed.

Typhoon Doksuri made a landfall in Fujian Province on Friday morning, bringing with it powerful winds and heavy rainfall. It moved to neighboring Jiangxi Province on Friday night, where it gradually weakened into a tropical storm.

Impacted by the typhoon, the downpour also pummeled northern China regions, including Beijing, North China’s Hebei Province and East China’s Shandong Province.
