Supermarkets, wholesales centers and delivery companies in Beijing increased their food supply capacity and stock amid high demand during the on-going heavy rain. Some online delivery platforms increased stock for major categories of foods by fifty percent.
The grocery delivery business of Chinese delivery platform Meituan said on Monday that it has increased general stock by twenty percent, and up to 50 percent for some major food categories. The platform reached its suppliers in advanced and procured 1,000 tons of vegetable and 350 tons of poultry and egg in three days, the platform said.
Beijing's Xinfadi wholesale market ramped up its daily vegetable supply volume on Sunday by 400 tons from previous day, according to local media outlet Beijing Business Today, noting that the market has made and commenced flood response plan in advance to secure the city's food supply.
The Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau said on Saturday that the bureau has coordinated with seven wholesale markets and major suppliers across Beijing to secure vegetable purchase, stock and transport.
Over recent days Beijing's supplies of various life necessities including meat, eggs and vegetables have remained stable and sufficient. Daily vegetable supply volume is above 22,800 tons, pork and egg supplies are above 500 tons and 450 tons, respectively, the bureau confirmed.
Affected by Typhoon Doksuri, Beijing was struck by its heaviest rainfall in a decade. From 8 pm Saturday to 1 pm Sunday, the city's average accumulated rainfall was 176.9 mm, with the city's Mentougou district recording average rainfall of 322.1 mm, according to the city's meteorological authorities. The heaviest rainfall also drenched Mentougou recorded at 580.9 mm.
