Indonesia held events to commemorate the 618th anniversary of the arrival during the voyages of Chinese Ming Dynasty navigator Zheng He on Saturday, in Semarang City, the capital of Central Java Province.
During the 28 years of Zheng He's voyages, Zheng He led a large fleet to visit Indonesia and Java island many times and carried out economic exchanges with locals in various ways. The economic and trade exchanges between Zheng He's voyages and Semarang had a positive impact on both the ancient economy and modern economic cooperation between the two countries.
Semarang City has a deep historical connection with Zheng He and China. "San Bao" from the Chinese name of Semarang City "San Bao Long" is Zheng He's original name. To commemorate Zheng He, local people called the place where he first landed in Java "Semarang". The Sam Poo Kong and Tay Kak Sie in Semarang, which both commemorate Zheng He, continue to burn incense all year round, attracting many tourists from Indonesia and abroad who respect and commemorate Zheng He to visit here.
