Government officials in Zhengzhou, Central China's Henan Province, met on Monday with executives of US electric car maker Tesla, and vowed to expand cooperation on new-energy vehicles (NEVs) and related industries.
Zhengzhou is the provincial capital of Henan, and is also an assembly base for iPhone manufacturer Foxconn. An Wei, an official from Zhengzhou, said during the meeting with Tesla Vice President Wang Hao that Tesla has advanced technologies and abundant talent in the NEV sector, and the company's development vision is in line with Zhengzhou's development plan.
An said Zhengzhou aims to build itself into the largest manufacturing base for NEV parts nationwide, taking advantage of its talent resources. The official also expressed hope that Tesla will enhance its cooperation with the city.
Wang expressed appreciation for the assistance for Tesla from the Zhengzhou government, noting that Zhengzhou has great potential for rapid development. Tesla will explore more cooperation opportunities in Zhengzhou in areas such as energy storage, technology development and research, data centers and intelligent robots.
According to the Zhengzhou government website, He Xiong, mayor of Zhengzhou, met with Ma Li, a representative of Tesla's Beijing branch on June 27, to discuss possible cooperation.
Zhengzhou is a major auto manufacturing center, and is home to six vehicle companies. Henan Daily reported on August 10 that the city exported 10.74 billion yuan ($1.48 billion) worth of cars in the first half of 2023, up 448.3 percent year-on-year.
