Former Guizhou Party chief placed under investigation

Sun Zhigang, former chief of the Provincial Party Committee in Southwest China's Guizhou Province, is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law and is currently under a disciplinary review and supervision investigation by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China (CCDI), according to the CCDI website on Monday.

Sun was born in May 1954 in Central China's Henan Province, and joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in September 1976.

Sun was appointed as a member of the Standing Committee of the Hubei Provincial Committee of the CPC in 2002. In 2006, Sun served as member of the Standing Committee of Anhui Provincial Committee of the CPC, and as executive vice governor.

In 2013, Sun became deputy director of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, and director of the State Council Medical Reform Office.

Sun became deputy Party secretary and acting governor of Guizhou Province in 2015, and in January of the following year, he became governor of Guizhou Province. In 2017, Sun became the Party chief of Guizhou Province, before stepping down in 2020.
