A China Eastern flight, MU2088, completed a return trip from the Taiwan region and landed in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province on Monday afternoon, marking the resumption of the first direct flight between Wuhan and Taipei in the past three years.
The resumption of flight was achieved with efforts from both sides of the Taiwan Straits. In 2020, due to the impact of the pandemic, the Taiwan authorities suspended all 12 flights operated by four airlines between the island of Taiwan and Wuhan.
China Eastern Airlines operates two flights per week on the Wuhan-Taipei route, on Monday and Thursday, with flight numbers MU2087/2088.
The direct air route between Wuhan and Taipei has played a positive role in promoting people-to-people exchanges and facilitating economic, trade, and cultural cooperation between the two places.
Among the passengers for the return trip on Monday are over 100 representatives from the Taiwan business and political sectors who have been invited to take part in the 17th Taiwan Week held in Wuhan, Hubei Province.
According to the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, in the first half of the year the number of visits from Taiwan to Chinese mainland has increased sevenfold compared to the same period last year due to the resumption of direct flights and the resumption of group tours for Taiwan residents coming to the mainland.
