The first meeting of the organizing committee for the International Horticultural Exposition 2024 Chengdu and the press conference for the event were held in Beijing on Wednesday. With the theme of "Park City, Beautiful Living," the event aims to create a world horticultural expo with "contemporary features, international standards, Chinese elements, and Chengdu characteristics." It will be held from April 26 to October 28, 2024.

The main venue of the International Horticultural Exposition 2024 Chengdu, hosted by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, the China Flower Association, and the Sichuan provincial government, covers an area of 242 hectares and has seven themed exhibition areas. A total of 114 exhibition gardens will be built, and invitations for the exhibition have been sent. So far, 16 foreign cities from countries such as France, Germany, Czech Republic, Italy, the US, Brazil, Australia, and Morocco, as well as 20 foreign associations and companies, have registered to participate in the exhibition.

Tourists will have the opportunity to witness the magnificent scenery of five continents' rare and exotic plants displayed together in the same garden. The elegance of French gardens and the romance of Italian gardens will be juxtaposed with the beauty of gardens from China's Jiangnan area and Sichuan-style gardens, showcasing the diverse styles of world gardens.

At the press conference on Wednesday, the emblem, mascot, and floral emblem of the International Horticultural Exposition 2024 Chengdu were officially unveiled. The emblem of the event is based on the outline of a panda's head, incorporating various plant elements such as ginkgo, hibiscus, and golden bamboo, fully showcasing the rich biodiversity of the Chengdu region.

The mascot for the event is "Tong Mei." The core concept is derived from the unique Chinese plant, the Gongtong (also known as the Dove Tree), and the "bronze divine bird" from the famed Sanxingdui Ruins site. It symbolizes peace, friendship, inclusiveness, and mutual learning, and is rich in profound cultural connotations and the characteristics of Bashu.

According to public voting and expert opinions, combined with the situation of characteristic plants in Chengdu, the hibiscus flower has been chosen as the floral emblem of the International Horticultural Exposition 2024 Chengdu. The hibiscus symbolizes nobility, determination, reunion, and happiness, expressing the vision and blessings for the successful hosting of the Chengdu World Horticultural Exposition.

The International Horticultural Exposition 2024 Chengdu has pioneered the preparation of a "Sustainable Development Report," which embodies the "green, low-carbon, sustainable, shared and inclusive" theme throughout the entire process. It fully practices the concept of low-impact development, and includes a sound sponge system in the park as well as a large number of plants with strong carbon absorption capabilities. The concept of sustainable development is integrated into every aspect of preparation, construction, and operation, as well as architecture, energy and transportation.

"In 2024, the Chengdu World Horticultural Exposition will become a grand stage for global horticultural exchanges, as well as a platform to showcase the new image and charm of Chengdu," said an official from the Chengdu government. Taking the opportunity of hosting the International Horticultural Exposition, Chengdu will vigorously promote the construction of urban park systems, integrate world horticulture into the development of public spaces, and take advantage of Chengdu's favorable ecological background and rich biodiversity. Chengdu will accelerate the creation of higher quality and more balanced green spaces."
