Renowned singer Jay Chou from the island of Taiwan, often hailed as the "King of Chinese Pop," is adding another feather to his cap as he takes on the role of chief curator for the newly unveiled art exhibition, "Art Encounters with Jay." After wrapping up a series of four spectacular concerts in Shanghai on Sunday, the multi-talented singer officially opened the exhibition to the public on Monday.

This exhibition features the works of over 20 celebrated contemporary artists and is imbued with elements closely associated with Jay Chou, including pianos, microphones, basketballs, nunchaku, and scenes reminiscent of magic tricks. From German Expressionist paintings to Pop Art, graffiti, and street art, the exhibition underscores the connection between these artistic forms and Jay Chou's musical journey, offering a glimpse into Chou's classical musical foundation, nurtured through academic German Expressionist paintings, as well as the inspiration he draws from hip-hop and rap culture in street art.

Jay Chou likened his role as a curator to his experience directing the film "Secret," where he had to weave an enthralling narrative to captivate the audience. He hopes the exhibition resonates deeply within the hearts of its visitors. "Curating is much like embarking on a new musical journey, where art is a fate decided at first sight," he said.

The exhibition is divided into two primary sections. The "White Box" space presents professional museum-grade art pieces, while the interactive area offers visitors a chance to immerse themselves in the experience. The exhibit not only showcases the links between Jay Chou's music and his artistic insights but also recreates iconic Jay Chou music video scenes, presents "Jay"-style real-life elements, and even features props from movies he directed.

Initiated by the organizer WEF EEL ART, it is the first exhibition in China under the world-class IP "Art Colure with Artistes", which focuses on cross-border art actions among artists.

The exhibition will run until January 1, 2024, with ticket prices ranging from 79 to 128 yuan for individual entry.
