Journalists from 13 Latin American countries were amazed by the dustless blasting demonstration when they visited an ecological mine site restoration project in Jizhou district, North China's Tianjin on Oct 26.

To gain a deeper understanding of what China has achieved in ecological restoration and sustainable development, the journalists recently visited the Jizhou mine site ecological restoration project of the CCCC Tianjin Dredging company in Jizhou. The district is the last stop of the Tianjin event "Travelogue of China," a multilateral cultural exchange initiative.

"Flying dust is a common difficulty facing ecological restoration worldwide. We adopted advanced domestic dust-reduction equipment and addressed this challenge with dustless blasting technology," explained Tang Xianxi, an expert of the Jizhou Mine Ecological Restoration Project Department with CCCC Tianjin Dredging Co., Ltd.

Jizhou district boasts abundant mineral resources. But in the 1980s and 1990s, due to unregulated exploitation, the local mountains were left with several gaping pits of different sizes. Currently, Jizhou has implemented a comprehensive environmental protection and restoration plan covering mountains, rivers and residential areas.

The journalists came to the Jizhou Ecological Restoration Exhibition Hall to learn about the planning, implementation and achievements of ecological mine site restoration projects as well as technologies used during restoration. The Jizhou mine site ecological restoration project covers an area of 637 hectares and addresses issues like geological disaster control, ecological environment restoration, residual rock material processing, and the introduction of ecological industries. Additionally, it introduced the dustless blasting technology with the application of high-pressure spray water cannon trucks for the ecological restoration of abandoned mines for the first time.

The journalists also visited the Green Environmental Aggregate Processing Intelligent Monitoring Center. "The entire aggregate production process is fully automated, with manual intervention only necessary in case of a malfunction. The smart big screen of the center will display all technical parameters of the production process," said Chen Lei, executive deputy manager of the Jizhou Mine Ecological Restoration Project Department.

Cao Xingkai, project manager of the Jizhou Mine Ecological Restoration Project Department, elaborated on the Chinese model of restoring abandoned mines, sharing pertinent cases and his own experience.

César Eduardo Romero Calle from Peru, Leticia Martinez from Argentina and other journalists were interested in whether the mine restoration technology can be applied in their own countries. "Chinese enterprises now place a strong emphasis on preserving the ecology of mining areas and follow the concept of 'green mines' to ensure that exploitation does not damage the local ecological environment. We'd like to reach cooperation with Latin American countries," Cao replied.

The journalists felt very hopeful toward the potential cooperation on mine projects with China. "Mine protection is a very important project," said Jason Jaén Uréña, a journalist from Costa Rica, adding that he believes that both countries will reach certain cooperation as Costa Rica also attaches great importance to environmental protection.

"The mine site ecological restoration project is very interesting. The project and industries developed based on it can promote not only mining development in Mexico, but also the country's economic development," said Liliana Padilla Guerrero, a journalist from Mexico.

After their trip to Tianjin, the journalists will visit Tangshan, in North China's Hebei Province to explore the city's culture, customs and technology-empowered modernization.
