According to media reports on Tuesday, doctors in Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong Province, have successfully performed the first surgery in South China to create breasts using abdominal fat, with the assistance of a robot.
Using an alias, a 53-year-old woman surnamed Kuang was diagnosed with cancer in her left breast. The local hospital recommended a total mastectomy for Kuang. She was later transferred to Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, Zhongshan University. After evaluation, it was found that Kuang's tumor volume is relatively large, but fortunately, her skin has not been affected.
The hospital in a first performed a minimally invasive subcutaneous mastectomy surgery according to Kuang's desire to reconstruct her breasts using her own abdominal excess fat, achieving a seamless appearance while also restoring the breasts. The result is aesthetically pleasing, with a soft and realistic hand feeling.
Kuang suffers from poor vascular health, making traditional surgery more complex. With the collaborative efforts of the hospital team, the robot-assisted breast reconstruction surgery was successfully completed. "Compared to implants, autologous tissue transplantation does not have issues such as foreign body rejection, resulting in higher postoperative safety," the report said.
Netizens commented that the operation was so impressive that it could be called a medical miracle.
