A video circulating online recently depicts a woman from Dehui, Northeast China's Jilin Province, who allegedly gave birth to 10 children. However, it is reported that the family is facing financial difficulties, and the youngest child has been suffering from an armpit infection. The news has triggered wide attention from both netizens and local authorities.
Local village officials told Red Star News on Tuesday that the family mentioned in the video consists of a 59-year-old father and a mother in her 40s. The mother is indeed a resident of the village and has an intellectual disability, who has obtained a disability certificate, according to media reports.
In response to the child's armpit infection in the video, the village officials said the girl had recovered, and the video was taken a long time ago. They also said that the family has received subsidies from local authorities, Red Star News reported.
One of the officials in Dehui said local officials know about the issue, however, they have limited information, The Paper reported on Tuesday.
A villager said that the couple mentioned in the video are from the same village with her, and stated that their marriage is "normal." Her family had previously experienced the loss of children. Currently, the family has six children, with the youngest being an infant, and two of the children have intellectual disabilities, according to the report.
The villager also said that there is one senior person in the family. However, some bloggers came to her house every day to take videos, and some netizens also sent stuff to the house, the report noted.
The news gained more than 87 million views on X-like Chinese social media Sina Weibo, with many showing concern over the condition of the family. An employee from the Dehui local disabled persons' federation said that if the woman's disability is confirmed, the family will receive correspondingly subsidies totaling 160 yuan ($25), in addition to other subsidies up to about 10,000 yuan per year, reported Jiupai News, a Hubei province-based news portal. The federation will also support the family, and they will conduct investigation as soon as possible.
